Road Trip to Indiana from North Carolina (Part1)

一週間旅に出ていたのでしばらく書いていませんでした。長い間家を開けるとなると準備も大変で。。。ここ、ノースカロライナ州東部から、インディアナ州のグランマのところまで運転して行って帰って来ました〜。トータルで片道１３時間かかるので、途中で一泊するのにいいところを見つけて観光もかねて。ウェストバージニア州の”ニューリバー峡谷”という国立公園、１日目はそこのエリアにある古い駅のゴーストタウンみたいなところに寄ってきました。

We just got back from our road trip to Indiana (grandma's)! The trip takes about 13 hours total driving. Before the trip, I did researches to find some interesting places to stop by and found New River Gorge National Park which is located in just about half way to our destination.
We left eastern North Carolina on Sunday morning, kept driving to west through the part of Virginia, then arrived West Virginia. We visited the historic old town of Thurmond first then stayed around there that night.





















アパラチア山脈に入ってからちょっとの間、すごいストームと雷でビビったけれど、、、無事に通り抜け。フリーウェイを降りてから、細い山道を下って川のところにたどり着きました。この辺りが！なんとも日本みたいで、、霧島にとっても似ている感じでした〜。線路はいまでも使われていて貨物列車が通っているはずだけど、自分たちがいた時には全然列車は来なかったのが残念。アムトラックの夜行列車も通っていてこの駅で停車するんだそう。いつかその列車にのってここをまた通ってみたい！

明日の朝は、ニューリバー峡谷のおっきな橋を見てからまたルートに戻ります〜。

We had to drive through the strong thunder storm at Appalachian mountain but made it ok. Then, we got off the freeway and drove down the little mountain road (there was no cell phone receprion!) to get to the part of New River. The town is like a ghost town, but freight trains still go through. We didn't see any train while we were there, but I know an Amtrak train actually stops at this station, too. I want to ride that Amtrak and go through here someday!

Tomorrow morning, we are visiting New River Gorge Bridge!
